New LED from Osram Enables Ultra-slim Designs for Headlights

OSLON Boost HX makes use of the high current capability of the latest chip generation. It is fabricated in a thermally optimized package. The LED is characterized by a high luminance from up to 200 cd/mm². Also, it features a high luminous flux. Therefore this LED is ideally suited as a powerful light source for high-definition MEMS AFS.

Chip size measures 0.5 mm²

The  Osram Oslon Boost HM LED enables ultra-slim headlamp designs in vehicles. According to the company, the developers have achieved a brightness of 415 lm at 1.5 A. The utilised chip area measures 0.5 mm².

No compromise with intensity

The package of the LED has a dimension of 1.9 mm x 1.5 mm x 0.73 mm. With its compact size, it provides a finger-width front headlamp solution. It features small size without compromising with the intensity of light output. The luminance of the LED is noted to be 255 cd/mm² at a current consumption of 1.5 A.

Suitable for MEMS-based adaptive front lighting systems

The Oslon Boost HM can also be used in combination with other LEDs. It can be used to provide an additional high beam to the existing LED system. The LED is also suitable for use in MEMS-based adaptive front lighting systems.

According to Osram, this opto semiconductor company was able to implement its experience and expertise in package designing to create this new product. As a result, the ceramic package of the Oslon Boost HM allows for easy thermal management within the component.

Provides easy surface heat dissipation

Due to the specially designed internal structures, heat can be easily dissipated from the LED through surface heat sinks. Furthermore, the LED shines with a  thermal resistance of 4.62 K/W.
