PassTime GPS systems have recently collaborated with Altair Semiconductor for developing a stable and efficient IoT solution for their new GPS and cellular-based tracking Device ‘ENCORE‘ and is ready to hit the market.
Altair Semiconductor is one of the leading solution providers for IOT chipset and working in providing cellular connectivity for the NB-IoT and CAT-M solutions. The ALT1250 is a 6th generation software-defined Radio architecture featuring maximum flexibility at extremely low power. This module has already been implemented in services like smart meters, wearables, asset tracking and vehicle telematics.
ALT1250 is also used in PassTime GPS systems newest solution ‘ENCORE’ which is made to provide a reliable GPS tracking solution with fair connectivity and longer battery life. The solution is based on using cellular networks including 5G to provide seamless connectivity to the user so that the GPS can be tracked anywhere and anytime. The device weight is less than 2 oz and dimensions are 8.75cm x 5cm x 1.25cm.
The limitation seen earlier in these type of GPS tracking devices were interrupted connectivity as they were dependent on GPRS or 2G network for connectivity. Also, the need of recharging the device in every 4-5 days was a bigger problem in the picture of deploying these devices into Automotive vehicles ( e.g Transport vehicles ) which were travelling for thousands of kilometres per week and the device usually ends up as a temporary solution.

The device is also running on 4 different power modes according to the features and battery life you require to be used continuously and for a longer run. They are classified as
Endurance Mode – Auto-Locates 2 times per day. Fully automatic & low maintenance and battery impact are Low.
Trip Mode – Advanced accelerometer reports data at the beginning and end of each of the asset’s trips. Battery Impact is Medium.
Active Mode – Full functionality while the asset is moving and locates when the asset stops. It always knows where your vehicle is and has a high battery impact.
Recovery Mode – Full-power mode for vehicle recovery. Operates until the battery is depleted or mode is switched. The battery impact is maximum.
