The Kirin 990 chipset is the world’s first mobile SoC with 10.3 billion transistors, thus making it one of the most effective, fastest and energy-efficient chipsets available. It’s AI and photography capabilities deliver better 5G experience to smartphone users.
Unmatched 5G experience
With the cutting-edge 7 nm+ EUV manufacturing process, Kirin 990 (5G) comes integrated with a 5G modem in a small area and consumes less power. Moreover, the chipset is the first full-frequency 5G SoC to support both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) architectures as well as TDD/FDD full frequency bands, thus enabling it with large hardware requirements under diverse networks and networking modes. Based on Balong 5000’s excellent 5G connectivity capability, Kirin 990 (5G) provides a peak downlink rate of 2.3 Gbit/s and an uplink peak rate of 1.25 Gbit/s that gives unmatched 5G experiences in the industry.
Dual-core NPU architecture
Kirin 990 (5G) consists of a dual-core NPU (Network Processor Unit) built on the Da Vinci architecture. It comprises of large and tiny NPU cores. The large cores achieve high performance and power efficiency during heavy computing, while the tiny cores provide ultra-low power consumption.
Saves bandwidth and power consumption
In terms of CPU, Kirin 990 features a 3-level power efficiency structure, comprising of 2 ultra-large cores, 2 large cores, and 4 small cores, with a frequency of up to 2.86 GHz. In addition, Kirin 990 uses a 16-core Mali-G76 GPU and the new system-level Smart Cache for intelligent flow distribution that effectively saves bandwidth and power consumption.
Excellent photography processing
As for photography, Kirin 990’s (5G) brand-new ISP 5.0 establishes block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) hardware noise reduction (NR) for capturing brighter and sharper images in low light environments. It is also the first to use dual-domain video NR for more accurate noise processing for videos. The AI-based real-time video post-processing and rendering can adjust the image colour frame by frame for a richer cinematic experience.
Smooth and fast gaming experience
Kirin 990 (5G) supports an upgraded Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 that enables efficient collaboration between hardware infrastructure and solutions.
Huawei’s R&D centre in Bengaluru, India has been playing a major role in the development of Kirin 990 and plans to include the 5G version in the upcoming Huawei smartphones.
