Alps Alpine Develops Waterproof Digital Pressure Sensor


Consumes low current with dedicated ASIC based IC for applications in wearables and IoT products

Alps Alpine, a manufacturer of high-quality electronic products, has started mass-producing the HSPPAD143A Waterproof Digital Pressure Sensor for wide-ranging applications in wearable devices and IoT equipment such as flow meters for essential utilities.

The newly developed product has an expanded pressure measurement range of 300 – 2100hPa, as compared to 300 – 1100hPa of existing products, and a water-resistant design. This means it works in both low-pressure environments at altitudes up to 9,000 meters and high-pressure conditions down to 10 meters underwater, allowing measurement in both open air and water with a single sensor.


The HSPPAD143A also houses a dedicated, fully customized application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) based IC. The sensor has a built-in FIFO (First In First Out) memory, and it can be used in combination with a ready-made O-ring that realizes outstanding water resistance with simple mechanical design to simplify end-product design. As a result, the sensor can be used for a wide variety of purposes not restricted to wearable products or applications like pressure measurement in gas meters.

The product comes in dimensions of 3.1 × 3.1 × 2.6mm in surface mount package.
