Modular DC/DCs Keep BOM Under Control

RECOM slashes the cost of 1 Watt DC/DCs

Although modular DC/DC converters are considered to offer greater efficiency and reliability than discrete designs, their costs have prevented manufacturers from including them in their designs – especially where large numbers of converters were required.

However, efficient manufacturing combined with high volume production have enabled RECOM to offer 5VDC to 5VDC isolated converters at the lowest cost on the market while making no compromise on quality, claims the firm. Moreover, the converters have the same international certifications and warranty as RECOM’s standard products. Complete, pre-tested, pre-certified modules not only save on development time but also reduce manufacturing complications and simplify the final certification process.

Furthermore, engineers will also be freed from various unexpected problems possible in discrete designs, such as component tolerances, testing failures and EMC issues that can lead to troublesome delays and re-design costs.

The RFB, RFM, and RFMM are SIP4 and SIP7 case DC/DC converters offered at unmatched low prices for cost-sensitive power isolation and voltage matching applications in board interfaces, which have become high volume commodity applications.

Despite their low cost, they are fully specified converters with 1kVDC or 4kVDC isolation, industrial operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C without derating and UL/EN certifications, the company said in the announcement.

The RFB, RFM and RFMM series are available at all authorized RECOM distributors.
