180nA DC-DC Converter Boosts Coin cell IoT

ROHM recently rolled out an ultra-low-power DC/DC converter designed to meet the needs of the IoT arena. Contending the lowest current consumption of 180nA, the device offers a long battery life of up to ten years with a single coin battery.

The BD70522GUL with integrated MOSFET is ideal for compact battery-driven devices in applications such as IoT, wearables, and portable equipment such as smartphones. 

In the announcement, ROHM noted that this unprecedented current consumption of just 180nA could be achieved utilizing Nano energy technology,

The tech enables the converter to increase battery drive time by 1.4x over conventional products when operating without a load (standby). This contributes to longer battery life in electronic devices powered by coin-type batteries (i.e. CR2025).

At the same time, this allows the converter to deliver a power conversion efficiency of more than 90% over a wide load range from 10µA to 500mA.

Measuring just 1.76mm x 1.56mm x 0.57mm, the device works with supply voltages from 2.5V to 5.5V and supplies 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.0V, 2.5V, 2.8V, 3.0V, 3.2V or 3.3V outputs.
