Intel announced that it is working with Dell, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft towards creating PCs with built-in 5G connections, that’ll be available by the second half of 2019. Intel’s upcoming XMM 8000 series modems will power machines from these companies.
To give a demo of how 5G will work in a laptop, Intel will also give at MWC a first sneak peek at a concept 5G-connected PC – a detachable 2 in 1 – connected by an early 5G modem and powered by 8th Generation Intel Core i5 processors. The company will showcase the power of 5G on a PC by livestreaming video over the 5G network.
Intel explained that 5G is going to change significantly how we use our PCs and bring new experiences for PC owners, such as high-quality video on-the-go, high-end gaming, etc. Users can imagine continuing to play a multiplayer game while riding in an autonomous vehicle or downloading a 250 megabyte file in seconds from a parking lot.
