Tiny True Green LEDs Offer 2800 mcd For Cell Phones & Traffic Signals!


Vishay has unveiled a new series of true green LEDs offered in a compact surface-mount 0603 ChipLED package and claiming high luminous intensity up to 2,800 mcd. The LEDs allow designers to increase design-in flexibility and enable smaller end- products in backlight keypads and displays for navigation systems, cell phones, industrial control systems, and traffic signals and message boards.

Measuring 1.6 x 0.8 x 0.55 mm, the VLMTG1400 series devices utilize the most recent ultrabright InGaN chip technology to achieve a high luminous intensity up to 2,800 mcd, claims Vishay.

“With their high brightness and small size, the PCB-based devices released today are the perfect choice for small scale products that are expected to work reliably in arduous environments”, according to the firm.

The VLMTG1400 series features luminous intensity from 1,200 mcd to 2,800 mcd at 20 mA, a typical wavelength of 525 nm, and forward voltage from 2.75 V to 3.2 V.


The devices offer an extremely wide viewing angle of 146°.

Available in 8 mm tape, the LEDs are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green; compatible with IR-reflow soldering processes; and preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 2a.

Samples and production quantities of the VLMTG1400 series are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
