New Industrial High-side Switch Designed For Inductive Loads!


Industry 4.0 applications requiring a high-side switch to control inductive loads will now be benefitted by a new device from Maxim Integrated, which the firm says can safely drive and demagnetize any inductive load via its integrated clamps. Applications of the MAX14913 include programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motion control units, drives, and other industrial and process automation applications.

The MAX14913 is claimed the world’s first and only octal high-side switch with integrated fast and safe- demagnetization clamps capable of discharging and demagnetizing any inductive load.

The firm states the key advantages of the new device as:-

  • System speed: Ultra-high speed switching up to 200 kHz improves system speed by >15×; Handles 24-V (nominal)/36-V (max) loads at up to 0.5 A with minimum delay
  • Robust: Safely drives and demagnetizes any inductive load with integrated safe-demagnetization clamps on outputs; each output is also protected against 1-kV of surge
  • Small footprint: Industry’s smallest octal high-side driver reduces board space by 40% compared to other solutions on the market; enables compact high-density I/O modules
  • Diagnostic capabilities: Reduces downtime through multiple diagnostic capabilities; simplifies plant troubleshooting


The chip is available in a 56-pin QFN package (8mm × 8mm × 0.8mm) and specified over the -40-degree Celsius to +125-degree Celsius temperature range. Pricing starts at $6.95 (1000-up, FOB USA)
