Qualcomm has unveiled its new mobile processor, the Snapdragon 821, that’s around 10 percent faster than its current successful Snapdragon 820 processor, which is used in high-end phones like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC 10 and Sony Xperia X, Xiaomi Mi5, LG G5 and HTC 10.
The Snapdragon 821 will help set a new bar for smartphones, tablets, mobile VR head mounted displays and other new devices with improved speeds, battery life and greater app performance.
The Snapdragon 821 acheives increased speeds over the 2.1GHz 820 by using the Qualcomm Kryo quad-core CPU clocked at 2.4GHz. For other things, it uses the same Snapdragon 820’s tech, for example, the X12 LTE modem designed to support download speeds up- to 600 Mbps, Snapdragon Upload+ for LTE uploads up-to 3x as fast, and Ultra HD Voice for vastly improved call quality.
Commercial devices powered by the 821 are expected in the second half of 2016. For further details, view the full Press release.
