Linear Technology introduces a step-down power converter for applications including industrial, robotic, medical, instrumentation and telecom systems. The LTM4642’s small footprint, high efficiency and dual-regulator design enables system designers to reduce PCB area or fit this point-of-load regulator on densely populated boards, says the company.
Operating over a wide input voltage range of 2.375V to 20V, the LTM4642 supports two outputs with voltage ranges of 0.6V to 5.5V, set by a single external resistor. The device’s operating efficiencies at full current at a 1.8V load from input supplies of 12V, 5V and 3.3V are 88 per cent, 91 per cent and 93 per cent, respectively.
High switching frequency and a valley current mode architecture enable a very fast transient response to line and load changes without sacrificing stability. The two outputs are interleaved with 180° phase to minimize the ripple noise and reduce the I/O capacitors.
RoHS compliant and Pb-free, the LTM4642 operates from -40°C to 125°C and is offered in a compact 9mm x 11.25mm x 4.92mm BGA package.
