TVS Device Protects Sensitive Ultra HD TVs from Transients


Semtech announced a new Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) array designed to protect emerging high speed HDMI 2.0 interfaces against electrical transients. The RClamp0564P provides exceptional clamping performance against ESD events for emerging Ultra HD products such as 4K television systems, media streaming devices, set top boxes and other similar consumer devices.

The RClamp0564P is a 4-line integrated TVS array targeted at the rapidly growing Ultra HD (4K2K) systems featuring the latest HDMI 2.0 interface. The TVS device meets the rigorous signal integrity requirements of HDMI 2.0 as well as delivers robust ESD protection for highly sensitive HDMI 2.0 chipsets.

The device improves overall clamping performance with ultra-low clamping voltages for optimal transient protection, and delivers ultra-low capacitance (0.17pF typical line-to-ground). It offers a 20 per cent PCB space savings over traditional 4-line HDMI devices using a flow-through package footprint.


“To achieve maximum performance from today’s pluggable interfaces, chipmakers are continuing to push toward ever smaller process geometries, leading to controllers and SoC devices that are increasingly sensitive to ESD transient,” said Rick Hansen, Product Marketing Director for Semtech’s Protection Product Group.

The new TVS device offers transient protection for high-speed data lines according to IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD). The device is Pb Free and RoHS/WEEE compliant.
