Often reduced size of devices and compact designs in smartphones, tablets, wearable technology, tends to shorten product life because of high ESD. Looking forward to address the following requirement of compact devices and provide them extended life, Littelfuse has recently launched robust diodes that can safely absorb repetitive ESD strikes without performance degradation.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is the sudden flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects caused by contact, an electrical short, or dielectric breakdown. A buildup of static electricity can be caused by tribocharging or by electrostatic induction. The ESD occurs when differently-charged objects are brought close together or when the dielectric between them breaks down, often creating a visible spark.
As per product leaflet, “The SP1013, SP1014, SP1020 and SP1021 TVS diodes arrays include back-to-back Zener diodes that provide protection for electronic equipment that may experience destructive electrostatic discharges (ESD). It measures 0.52mm x 0.27mm making it a true 0201 footprint or about 30 per cent smaller than existing 0201 ESD footprints. The SP1013 can safely absorb repetitive ESD strikes above the maximum level specified in the IEC61000-4-2 international standard (Level 4, ±8kV contact discharge) without performance degradation, and the back-to-back configuration provides symmetrical ESD protection for data lines when AC signals are present.”
According to the press release, all the four devices are provided in tape & reel form in quantities of 15,000.
