FRAMs Suitable For Smart Car Airbag Systems

In order to address the requirement of customers looking for memory guaranteed to operate in high temperature automotive and industrial environments, Fujitsu has unveiled two new FRAM chips which can work over extended operating temperatures of up to 125°C and are compliant with the AEC industry standard AEC Q100.

The MB85RS128TY and MB85RS256TY FRAMs allow instant and continuous data storage in applications such as air bag data storage, event data recorders (EDR), battery management systems (BMS), automatic driving assistance systems (ADAS) or navigation and infotainment systems.

Recently there has been a growing demand for high-performance non-volatile memory in automotive electronic control systems which access a wide variety of sensor data, notes Fujitsu.

“FRAM being a non-volatile memory technology offers advantages of fast random access, high read and write endurance and low power consumption. These features make them ideal for storing the data collected by these sensors without a delay – for example, for analysis purposes or for other forms of data processing”, explained the firm.

The new automotive FRAMs offer a 256kbit FRAM with SPI interface and an extended operating voltage range of 1.8 to 3.6V.

The operating temperature of this device ranges from -40°C to +125°C. This extended temperature range meets the requirements of the automotive market as well as industrial applications within hot environments.

The FRAMs offer a write endurance of 10ˆ13 and are housed in a standard SOP-8 package.

Engineering samples of MB85RS128TY and MB85RS256TY are available now. AEC Q100 qualifications are scheduled to be completed in July 2017.
