To address the increasing demand of inverter solutions for electrically powered systems, such as HEV and EVs, to reduce CO2 emissions, Renesas has unveiled a new 100 kW inverter in 3.9 liter (L) size for high-power 100 kW motors in mid- to large-sized hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) including SUVs, and mid- to small-sized electric vehicles (EVs).
Leveraging the new solution kit, system developers can reduce the prototyped inverter development period from two- to three years to just one year. This is possible by reducing time for various development steps: from specifications analysis, to hardware/software development and motor characteristic adjustments.
The solution includes software that maximizes the HEV/EV motor performance and hardware components such as microcontrollers (MCUs), Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) and fast recovery diode (FRD), and other power semiconductor devices.
In 2014, the firm developed a 2.9 L inverter solution for 50 kW motors. To respond to the growing needs for large-output motors for use in large vehicles, the firm has now developed a 3.9 L inverter solution which is designed for 100 kW motors in larger vehicles.
The new 100 kW class inverter solution is available with a motor calibration tool for quick evaluation in actual cars and to maximize motor performance.
Renesas will be introducing the 100 kW class inverter solution, including presenting demonstrations using the new solution, at Renesas DevCon Japan 2017.
