To address the increasing demand of 3 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitors for high reliability automobile applications such as automobile preventive safety systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), Murata has launched its new NFM18HC series, offered in the company’s smallest 1.6 x 0.8mm package (previous product was 2.0 x 1.2mm).
The new NFM18HC series contributes to further size reduction and tighter density for automotive electronics.
The power circuit of the processor uses a decoupling capacitor to reduce impedance, thereby suppressing fluctuation of the power voltage and increasing stability. As the processing speed (operating frequency) of the processor increases, control of impedance in a wide frequency band is needed.
A 3 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor has smaller equivalent series inductance (ESL) than a conventional 2 terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor, so it can reduce the number of capacitors required for use in the higher frequency bands. This, in turn, saves PCB space for other components, reducing the overall PCB area required.
