RF Switch For Cable Modems Offers Excellent Linearity


RFMW announced design and sales support for an UltraCMOS SPDT RF switch from Peregrine Semiconductor, designed for use in cable applications including DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 cable modem, set-top box and residential gateways.

The new RF switch delivers high linearity and excellent harmonic performance in the 5–1794 MHz band. It also features low insertion loss and high isolation performance making it ideal for DOCSIS 3.1 applications.

The device achieves -121dBc second harmonic and -140dBc third harmonic at 17MHz exceeding the linearity requirements of the DOCSIS 3.1 cable industry standard. Supporting both DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 requirements, the insertion loss for this Peregrine switch is 0.3dB with 54dB of isolation and allows MSOs a simple and cost-effective transition to DOCSIS 3.1.

The PE42723 uses a dual-band architecture which allows multi-service operators (MSOs) to offer their customers new and expanded services. The chip comes in a 12-lead, 3x3mm QFN package.
