Medical Power Converters Feature 2uA Patient Leakage Current

XP Power announced new isolated and regulated DC-DC converters for medical applications. Typical applications include medical devices that require a low power isolated and regulated DC-DC converter that has an extremely-low patient leakage current and reinforced insulation.

The JHL and JHM series includes the 3 Watt JHL03, the 6 Watt JHL06 and the 15 Watt JHM15. All power converters are available with single and dual outputs. The converters are packaged in industry-standard format cases, ranging from DIP-24 for the JHL03 and JHL06 to 40.6 x 25.4 x 10.2 mm for the JHM15 series.

Key features of all the models include conformance to the 3rd edition international medical safety standards EN60601-1:2006 and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1:2005, a low 2uA maximum patient leakage current, and 2 x means of patient protection (2 x MOPP). A double / reinforced isolation barrier provides 4000 VAC maximum input to output isolation for one minute with a 250 VAC working voltage.

Input voltage ranges for the JHL series include 10 – 17 or 20 – 30 VDC, for nominal 12 or 24 VDC applications. The JHL03 and JHL06 series single output models are available with 5, 12 or 15 VDC outputs and duals offer +/- 12 or +/- 15 VDC outputs.

The JHM15 series comprises two 2:1 input voltage range options of 9 – 18 or 18 – 36 VDC. Products with single output voltages provide 5, 12, or 15 VDC outputs whereas those with duals provide +/- 5, +/- 12 or +/- 15 VDC.

For the single output models of JHL/JHM series, an output voltage trim function is available to provide a +/- 10 per cent adjustment of the output in order to accommodate losses or for special applications. The units comply to the EN55011 Level A EMI standard for both conducted and radiated emissions without the need for any external filtering components.

Both series are capable of operating in most environments and over an extended operating temperature from –40 to +80 degrees. The JHM15 can deliver the full output power up to + 60 degrees C without derating whereas the JHL03/06 series operates from -20 to + 80 degrees C with full output power available up to +50 degrees C.

The JCL03 series is available from XP Power, or from distributors like Farnell, element14 and Digi-Key, and come with a three year warranty.
