Gemalto is launching a M2M Cat 1 LTE module to revolutionise highly-efficient LTE connectivity and embedded processing for M2M/IoT applications. The miniaturised Cinterion module is designed for applications such as smart metering, tracking and tracing requiring a small footprint, and are not dependent on high speeds or huge bandwidth but require the longevity of the LTE network as 2G and 3G networks are phasing out.
IoT and M2M device manufacturers using 2G or 3G technologies in their devices to connect them with each other will now have a 4G integration option. The module enables fall-back to 2G in Europe Middle East Africa and to 3G in North America for areas where LTE connectivity is not yet fully-available.
The compact module features a powerful Java virtual machine to speed product development. Developers can now leverage the massive Java ecosystem, code base and software building blocks. This also eliminates the need for extra processor and memory chips thereby reducing overall cost, complexity and size of IoT devices.
