Lately, element14 and Atmel launched an evaluation platform to accelerate prototyping with the Atmel SMART SAMA5D2 series of microprocessors. The new SAMA5D2 Xplained Ultra board features secure design architecture, cryptographic acceleration engines, and secure boot loader making it ideal for point-of-sale (POS), Internet of Things (IoT), and industrial applications requiring anti-cloning, data protection and secure communication transfer.
The new SAMA5D2 Xplained Ultra board offers multiple memories including eMMC, DDR3 and QSPI as well as a comprehensive set of connectivity peripherals including 10/100 EMAC, USBs, CAN-FDs, FLEXCOMs, UARTs, SPIs and two QSPIs, SDIO/SD/e.MMCs, and TWIs/I2 C.
Built around the ARM Cortex-A5 processor, the SAMA5D2 MPU comes with an advanced user interface and security features. Cryptographic accelerators secure access to memories and sensitive peripherals. Several hardware features safeguard memory content, authenticate software reliability, detect physical attacks and prevent information leakage during code execution.
Additionally, the MPU includes three software-selectable low-power modes: Sleep, Wait and Backup. An Event System allows peripherals to receive, react to and send events in Active and Sleep modes without processor intervention.
The Xplained series can be used with add-on boards to add more features and functionality including WiFi, touchscreen display, sensing, ADC, Bluetooth, GPS or GSM/ GPRS to your design.
