Euroclamp’s PVSF series terminal blocks are now being distributed by Switchtec. The devices are said to allow installers to rapidly fit wires and cables to PCBs providing a reliable, cost-effective solution.
The blocks can be used where Faston connectors are used to connect cables, allowing installers to rapidly fit cables to PCBs without using tools. Also, when maintenance is carried out, these connections prove more useful compared to screw or soldered terminal types since wiring can be rapidly removed.
The traditional screw plug-in connector has many drawbacks. If the clamping screw is not tightened enough, it could result in loose wires with intermittent connections. If over-tightened, wires could be severed again resulting in poor long term reliability.
Further, the headers are quicker to use as no tightening of screws is required. This makes them ideal for mass production where rapid, low cost installation is needed. Also, they are compact and 4.5mm from the PCB, taking up less space on the PCB. This makes them suitable for smaller PC boards and compact assemblies.
Taking into account pitch, Faston sizing and number of ways, there are a number of options possible. The devices are stackable, so they can be added together without change in pitch, and offered in 2-way to 30-way types.
For flexibility, they can also be supplied with a single or double pin for PCB mounting, and also in five Faston sizes: 2.8 x 0.5, 2.8 x 0.8, 4.8 x 0.5, 4.8 x 0.8 and 6.3 x 0.8mm. To suit different applications, PVSF series headers feature three pitch sizes for PCB mounting, namely 5, 7.5, and 10mm.
