ON Semiconductor releases a new high-performance CCD (charge coupled device) image sensor designed to meet highest level image quality in astrophotography and scientific imaging applications. Available in a RoHS-compliant CERDIP package, the KAF-16200 is a 16.2 megapixel (MP) sensor to cater a wide range of both color and monochrome image sensing applications.
Utilizing a Full Frame CCD architecture, the device offers best in class image uniformity and dark current. High sensitivity is gained by using 6.0 µm square pixels and a transparent gate electrode. Each pixel contains anti−blooming protection to prevent image corruption during high light level conditions. Additionally, the sensor provides high resolution imagery in an APS-H (34.6 mm diagonal) optical format along with high dynamic range and low noise.
“This new image sensor targets opportunities directly identified by our camera manufacturing customers,” said Herb Erhardt, Vice President and GM, Industrial and Security Division, Image Sensor Group at ON Semiconductor, “The KAF-16200 provides a 2x increase in resolution compared to our current device addressing this segment, without sacrificing the CCD-level image quality required for these applications. This is another example of ON Semiconductor’s ability to leverage a broad technology base to provide the highest quality image sensor devices regardless of the underlying technology.”
